As Far as Scarves go......

Oct05

This is by far my favorite of the many "decorative" scarves offered this season.....It appears at once as a scarf and necklace combined.

"The Wow Factor"

This has to be one of the most intricately designed "lovelies" to don the fashion pages......the fact that it falls into the gladiator category does it for me. Much love to designers Viktor and Rolf.

"Crimes of Passion"

Oct05

Perfume bottle necklaces have a long history. In the days when everyone wasn't showering regularly keeping scent nearby was important. Ladies often wore small intricately decorated flasks on chains so that they could dab on perfume whenever they liked. This tradition lives on in the beautiful bottles created by designer Chhaya Kapadia for her company Maya Jewels. Kapadia built the company on three key principles: intricate and clever designs, the use of forgotten art forms, and uncompromising craftsmanship. Born and raised in Mumbai, India, she spent her childhood surrounded by bright colors, elaborate art and women adorned in jewelry. Her bracelets, rings, necklaces and other pieces have been featured in Town & Country, W magazine and Elle.

I asked her why she decided to add perfume bottles to her collections. She said that it is the romance of scent that appealed to her. "I like romantic aspect of life and different ways in which we humans express our love," she said. "When a man gives perfume to a woman, he declares his love for her. I wanted to depict romance in a romantic way! And thus creation of perfume bottles. Delicately carved and extraordinarily executed." The bottles range in price from $1500 to $15,000 with chains sold separately. (Luxist)

Decadent vintage-look adornments.

Style Icon: Iris Apfel

This eighty-six year old lady is the epitome of style. She wears big, bold jewelry and beautiful ornate clothing. So popular is she, that a book was written about her titled: THE IRREVERENT IRIS APFEL: RARE BIRD OF FASHION. The book contains clothing and jewelry that is absolutely breathtaking. I like the fact that she has and revels in her "individual style". She does not follow the "fashion path"....she has created her own.

Gracious Beauty Audrey Hepburn

I think that she will always be remembered most for her role in Breakfast At Tiffany's, but from what I have read about her, she was a beautiful person inside and out. Here is a quote that was spoken by her that I think sums up the type of person that she was...."never let yourself grow up believing that anybody if different from anybody else.....love each other and do what you can for your neighbor".
