The Heroine Bag by McQueen

Jul23

The new it-bag is the star of the F/W 2012-13 accessories campaign

The images from the Alexander McQueen autumn-winter 2012/13 accessories campaign have just been released.

The undisputed star is The Heroine, the brand’s new it-bag, which has been shot for the occasion by the famous still life photographer Dan Tobin Smith. It’s already available online on the site www.alexandermcqueen.com.

Its strengths are its classic shape, huge femininity, couture details and expandable design.

The Met Gala for 2011: Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

Feb23

Samantha Cameron, or “SamCam” as she is affectionately known in the U.K., is one busy lady. In addition to her duties as wife of the Prime Minister, and mom, she’s also taken on the role of ambassador to the British Fashion Council. It’s in this role that the former head of Smythson and recent appointee to Vanity Fair’s Best-Dressed List arrived at the Ritz bright and early this morning (despite last night’s party at 10 Downing Street) to introduce the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s director, Thomas P. Campbell, and Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton. The Met brass were on hand to lay out further details of the Met 2011 spring gala: Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, chaired by Mr. and Mrs. François-Henri Pinault. (That Mrs. is, of course, otherwise known as Salma Hayek-Pinault.) Also in attendance were two of the ball’s co-chairs, Anna Wintour and Stella McCartney; the third, Colin Firth, is attending to awards season duties this week.

Sarah Burton, McQueen’s creative director and his right-hand woman for 14 years, was clearly emotional at the event—and understandably so. Not only was the venue the site of McQueen’s first post-graduate show, but the handful of pieces on display, including his calf-hair horned jacket and a gilded feather jacket (left), reminded everyone why McQueen was such a national treasure. SamCam gave McQueen his due gravity introducing the event: “We are so happy that one of America’s great institutions is supporting one of the U.K.’s most deeply talented designers, Alexander McQueen,” she said from the podium. Bolton, for his part, agreed wholeheartedly; McQueen, he said, was an “easy sell” for the theme, especially given the late designer’s tremendous body of work. Alexander McQueen: A Retrospective

Feb12

Yesterday, a huge voice in the fashion industry was stilled...... Alexander McQueen will truly be missed. He always managed to leave us anticipating his next collection spectactular by uping the ante from season to season with his special brand of creativity and artistry. He will be remembered for his edgy, eclectic, over-the-top, unique and sometimes classic collections, as well as his show of shows. His designs are a sight to behold and he will certainly go down in history as one of the best. Featured is a sampling of some of his past collections.

More great looks from the 2010 resort collections. Black and white is always an easy look to pull together for an 'instantly classic" look. Michael Kors is leading the charge with his black and white cheetah print tops and dresses......I'm also lovin the Just Cavalli black and white one shoulder dress over skinny jeans; The print really does it for me. Not to be forgotten are the very ladylike pieces from Oscar de la renta.....the embroidered top and the black skirt accented with a large rose are a true hit. Let's face it, I'm that person who appreciates "extra stuff" on her clothes.

Style Icon: Iris Apfel

This eighty-six year old lady is the epitome of style. She wears big, bold jewelry and beautiful ornate clothing. So popular is she, that a book was written about her titled: THE IRREVERENT IRIS APFEL: RARE BIRD OF FASHION. The book contains clothing and jewelry that is absolutely breathtaking. I like the fact that she has and revels in her "individual style". She does not follow the "fashion path"....she has created her own.

Gracious Beauty Audrey Hepburn

I think that she will always be remembered most for her role in Breakfast At Tiffany's, but from what I have read about her, she was a beautiful person inside and out. Here is a quote that was spoken by her that I think sums up the type of person that she was...."never let yourself grow up believing that anybody if different from anybody else.....love each other and do what you can for your neighbor".
